Updating databases through re-surveys, gathering information from other maritime authorities and disseminate data to interested user.

To collect, with systematic surveys at sea and along the coast, geo-referenced data related to : - Coastal configuration, including man made infrastructure for maritime navigation (aids to navigation and port configuration).
- Depths of the seas in the area of national interest (including all potential hazards to navigation and other marine activities).
- Sea bottom composition.
- Tides and currents.
- Physical properties of water column.
To analyze and process data collected in order to create a comprehensive databases capable of producing thematic maps, nautical charts and related documents and publications for the following common uses : - Maritime navigation
- Naval operations.
- Coastal management and defense.
- Marine environmental preservation.
- Exploitation of marine resources and laying of submarine cables/pipelines.
- Maritime boundaries definition (Law of the Sea implementation).
- Scientific studies connected to the sea and near-shore zone.
To update the databases through re-surveys, to gather information from other maritime authorities and disseminate data to interested user. To perform the Designated National Authority (DNA) role and act as the National Focal Point (NFP) to International Oceanographic Commission (IOC) on matters pertaining to oceanography. To ensure the production, distribution and updating of charts. To ensure the timely dissemination of maritime safety information.
